Please forgive the short posts, but I’m squeezing the last few days out of this vacation, and the weather has been too lovely to be inside!

I love it when the classical music style pairs up with more contemporary styles, and Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar” is a fantastic example of how good it can be when it goes right. In case you don’t know him, he’s the brilliant singer/songwriter who wrote and sang “Wake Me Up” for DJ Avicii, who added a backbeat and got most of the credit.

What follows is a beautiful meeting of the talents of Aloe, young German violinist/composer Mihalj “Miki” Kekenj, and artist Jaybo Monk, who painted the piece behind the musicians for the performance. They really each deserve their own post, but the combination is so soulful and seamless, I couldn’t keep it to myself.
