In December of 2012, the three remaining members of Led Zeppelin were among those celebrated at the 35th Annual Kennedy Center Honors. (Somehow, I managed to miss this until now. Bear with me.) During the ceremony, Heart performed Led Zeppelin’s iconic 1970’s anthem, “Stairway to Heaven,” and they brought down the house. The band was visibly moved, as were the President, First Lady, and all assembled.
The performance is nothing short of epic, including a full choir and orchestra. Also playing with the Wilson sisters was Jason Bonham, the doppelganger son of the late, great Zeppelin drummer, John “Bonzo” Bonham. It’s a thoroughly moving performance, whether the song was part of the soundtrack of your formative years (as it was mine) or you’re hearing it for the first time (in which case, welcome to Earth). Also, it rocks. HARD. Seems like the perfect choice for a New Year’s Eve. Hope everyone’s having fun!

I am so wowed by this. Amazing and who could do it better than Ann & Nancy? I am all teary-eyed myself because my dad would’ve love, love, LOVED this performance. Both of those bands were part the soundtrack of my life thanks to him. Happy New Year (I need a tissue…)

So sorry it made you sad! I know what you mean, though. The posts that would have appealed to my mother make me leak, too. Happy new year!

Wow! That was one of the first albums I ever bought. The performance almost made me leak but it a good way. And it makes me think how much the world has changed since the early 70’s.

whoa, ya, watching them watch the performance? damn good! Excellent in many ways. Some of my best days in 2014 were those spent taking in live music performances. Music isn’t background, it is life! Thanks once again for a great music post! Happy 2015!
