Mason Wartman left a computer job on Wall Street to start his own pizza parlor in Philadelphia. The way he tells it, one day, a customer was in getting a slice and asked whether homeless people ever came in. Wartman said yes, they sometimes did, and the customer left some money to buy a slice for someone who needed it. Impressed, the proprietor told a few people about the customer’s idea, and it caught on (in a big way).
Today, I’d like to celebrate the thoughtfulness of strangers. I’m glad Mason Wartman had the urge to open his business and the sense to help this idea catch on, and I’m glad there are still people in the world willing to do something kind without any reward. And although it wasn’t technically Wartman’s idea, it takes an unusual man to invite the homeless into his store, so I’m grateful for his strength of character, too.
P.S. I have a family member who could use your prayers and good thoughts, so please send them along. Thanks!

This is just the BEST – “small & simple” is usually where the most brilliant things start. You cannot help but just wish & pray the best for everyone involved in this; even the bloggers (& their families) who commit the simplest act of sharing this with us. 🙂

Thank you! I love the idea, but we’d have a hard time selling it to a New York business. We’re lucky such generous people exist in the world.

In NYC I’m sure EVERYONE would pretend to be homeless every single day. NY businesses wouldn’t make any money that way; either that, or they’d get they Pay-it-Fwd stash jacked.

There’s definitely some truth to that, but I have to say I’ve seen some pretty remarkable acts of kindness here, too. Not everyone sucks. It’s just the sucky ones are louder.

I love the idea! Nothing usual in Europe, maybe we should adapt this idea. Thank for the inspiring post.
