Like Elizabeth I, these dogs have had a recent trip to the vet, requiring them to wear the dreaded collar, also known as the cone of shame. And like most of the English monarchs, the dogs are not amused.
Connecticut animal photographer Ty Foster has published a very entertaining series of photos called “Timeout,” illustrating dogs’ abject and adorable humiliation when placed in the dreaded collar. His subjects may not appreciate the joke, but the pictures are absolutely hilarious.
And if you have the time, his animal portraits are spectacular, and his website and his Instagram are both really worth exploring.

Hilarious, my husky chewed her cone up so much it turned into a deadly weapon with all the jagged edges.

That’s a great idea! Now that you mention it, my niece would get a kick out of them, too!

Oh how awful. So why did I go back and laugh at all of these again?! One of my cats had to wear one. But cats being cats, he wore it like a king!

I am not surprised to see so many Boxer images here. My much loved and deeply missed rescue Boxer went through one minor and three major surgeries in her life and was expert both at inducing guilt and expressing humiliation and disdain when she had on the evil collar. She became so adept at overcoming it the vet gave her two at a time (smaller inner one and ridiculously large outer one). Eventually I refused to use them because I couldn’t take the stink eye she gave me and because they didn’t work on her anyway. I wish I’d taken pictures but my own shame and guilt prevented it. In short there is something deeply appropriate about these shame-inducing devices having a regal English name…

I really think dogs communicate humiliation (and joy) better than any other creature, including humans.

It’s for their own good, so I didn’t feel too bad about how much I enjoyed the pictures.

Very true. Alas, we in the colonies can only take credit for having perfected greed, big hair, obesity, and reality TV.

Elizabeth the first is my historical heroin. The puppy dogs are hurt when they wear cones. That is hard, hurt puppies dogs.

Yes, but the puppy dogs are healing when they wear cones. That’s good for them.
