Summer always makes me go looking for THE song of the season. This year, I’ve found two!
First, I found this song a couple of days ago, and I can’t stop skipping around to it! It feels fun and bouncy and just like a steamy summer Saturday night on the dance floor in Ice Palace, which is, frankly, where I wish I were most of the time anyway.
The multi-culti trio is composed of U.K. vocalist Olly Alexander, Holland-born keyboard dude Emre Turkmen and Australian bass player Mikey Goldsworthy, and they sound like they’ve been playing together (possibly in a Pet Shop Boys cover band) for years. And years. Oh, I get it.
Sia choreographer Ryan Heffington gets in on the action too, and the result are very young, but quite fun.
The second anthem of summer 2015 just hit iTunes’ number 1 spot, which is fantastic for rising singer/songwriter (and Taylor Swift buddy) Rachel Platten. She’s going to be touring with Colbie Caillat and Christina Perri later this summer
Her track, “Fight Song,” works for any challenge you can think of. It can apply to LGBT struggles, health issues, personal challenges, school, work, family, all of it. So let’s all wave our flag of choice and stomp around to this very empowering and catchy tune!
