I thought the classical music comedy team of Igudesman & Joo was a good choice for the final creative post of 2015. Aleksey Igudesman and Hyung-ki Joo are two of the most flexible, nimble, accomplished musicians I’ve ever heard, but they don’t take themselves or their music too seriously. Their routines are very clever, and I think they go a long way to making classical music more accessible to those who don’t generally enjoy the stuff.
I hope you like them as much as I do!
And as much as I enjoy the duo on their own, they’re even more impressive with an orchestra!
And Joo even got to play around with Billy Joel!

Thank you for another superb year of OBT. This was the perfect finale for 2015. I play piano well enough to understand just how magnificent is this talent, I grew up in the age of Piano Man, and I love your appreciation of music and humor. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

And thank you back! I have just made a discovery that you might appreciate. I was re-listening to the videos just now, and I discovered that the music Richard Joo is playing with Billy Joel in the final video are actually excerpts from an album: “Billy Joel: Op. 1-10 Fantasies & Delusions – Music for Solo Piano.” I’ve just purchased it and will be listening to it on repeat for the rest of the day. Hope you enjoy it, too!
Happiest of New Years to you. Thank you for all your lovely support.

I’ve seen the first video, but not the others. Thanks so much! I was just complaining on Facebook that I’m working on the third movement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, that forces me to stretch my tiny hands a tenth–and then, when the notes are closer together, my arthritic knuckles won’t bend. I wonder if I can get Igudesman & Joo to make me a set of wooden key-depressors for that?

How funny! I imagine you could make one yourself! Now, all you need is an assistant.
