Satoshi Tomizu
These are the glorious miniature universes by Japanese artist Satoshi Tomizu. He starts his beautiful creations with a center of pearl or opal, then adds layers of clear and colored glass and gold leaf to form realistic-looking galaxies. They look to me like if Horton listened very closely, he might have heard a tiny who.
He also makes pieces featuring flowers and, in rare cases, jellyfish. And these complex beauties are made to be worn as pendants. This is going to be a tough one for me to resist!
You can enjoy all of Satoshi Tomizu’s glorious glasswork on his website and on Instagram and Facebook.

Here is Tomizu creating his beautiful pieces.
And because it’s now in my head (and I thought it might be in yours), here’s Horton, hearing things.

As with so many of the artists I share, I’d really love to see his work up close!

I’ve never heard of Spaceballs! They are beautiful. Can you only buy them in Japan?

(They’re not actually called spaceballs. That’s just me being a smart ass.) I think you can send him a message on Facebook if you’re interested in buying them.

I think glass is my favorite medium as well. I can’t wait for the day when I get to retire and go back to school for glass work!
