Better Than Yearbook

Remember yearbook? All those generic photos, all those stilted smiles (and all that bad hair)? Well, Boston Latin School senior Phillip Sossou gave people something to remember that’s 100 times better. This prolific young artist drew personable charcoal portraits of every single one of his 411 classmates. IN SECRET. Then, on the last day of class, Sossou and six friends festooned the halls of their high school with the drawings. And he didn’t do it to get attention, either.

“I was trying to show everyone in a positive light. Our class has been kind of divided. Having these pictures helps us to embrace our diversity.”

What a lovely boy! I’m sure we’re going to hear more from this talented young artist.

And if you’d like to see more, one of Sossou’s teachers shot video of all the portraits on the day they were unveiled.

What an incredibly generous action to do. He for sure deserves all the attention he can get, both for his art works and for offering his time and talent to his classmates in this way. Thanks for sharing this, it makes me in a good mood knowing there are people like him in the world! 🙂

This man’s talent is not drawing – it is that he looks for and finds good in people. That he captures it on paper is no small feat, but it is just the recording of his true gift. This is beyond lovely. Thanks for finding it and sharing it.
