I hope everyone had a lovely New Year’s Day. Today, I thought I’d post something fun and uncomplicated. These are the genius little musical memes by composer Brandon Ethridge. He composes real music, too, but it’s his wee compositions to viral videos (mostly involving animals and children) that have been my obsession for the last few days.
My first experience of Brandon Ethridge was the following video, which I believe I have watched at least 2 dozen times (likely more), and it’s the most silly and satisfying thing ever.
I love the spirit of Brandon Ethridge. He seems like an extremely nice man, and his sense of humor is spot on. His musicalization (is that a word? Who cares?) of spoken word is highly entertaining, and he made me laugh a lot this week.
You can see all of Brandon Ethridge’s adorable videos on his website and on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

I cannot stop watching these. I spent New Year’s Eve with friends, and I’m sure they thought I was being present, but in the back of my head was playing on a loop… “Can I pet that dawg?”

My toxic trait is that I almost never watch videos (I said it was toxic) but a large amount of time was just spent watching all of these. That guy is amazing at making talking seem like singing–I feel like I’m going to listen to people talk a lot differently now, lol.

He’s a wonder! I would love to be able to hear the music in conversation. On his YouTube channel are some videos of people much more agitated (and less adorable) than the ones I posted, but they’re wonderful in their own way!

What a genius idea! It’s like the modern version of having a musician accompany screenings of silent movies. The ones featuring kids are especially adorable but I also really liked the motivational message one.

Yes! That’s a great analogy. I also felt like it was a more fun version of operatic recitative, which always annoys me.
