In all my nearly 10 years of blogging, I don’t think I’ve ever been more giddy about bringing an artist to you lovelies. This is the deeply adorable animal art by Scotland-based illustrator and children’s book author Catherine Rayner. I’ve never seen animal art with more personality and character. And while I’m desperately in love with all of it, it’s her dog portraits make my heart skip a beat. (The terriers are especially fantastic.)

Rayner’s art isn’t just available for hanging on your wall, either. There are some darling children’s books, plus baby clothes and accessories and greeting cards. I’m 100% buying some of those baby clothes for my friends’ offspring. In fact, Rayner’s books have appeared on many best children’s books lists since she published her first picture book, Augustus and His Smile, in 2006. That book was later adapted for the theater and performed at the Royal Albert Hall!

Rayner’s website is wonderful, and even includes step-by-step drawing guides on Rayner’s website. What a fun way to spend a rainy afternoon! And if you need to occupy the little ones, her YouTube channel is full of her reading from her children’s books.

You can follow the astonishing Catherine Rayner on her website and on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

A few people have told me that the Instagram embeds are working again. Would you mind letting me know if they’re working for you? Thanks!

All of the illustrations are perfectly charming and I love the dynamism of her “scruffy” linework.

Oh my goodness! Her art is phenomenal! I LOVE it. My little sheltie girl absolutely would look like that terrier, fur going in all directions! I love how she scribbles to show the energy of the animals. Just wonderful.

I think some of these are in my future. Did you know that Greg and I got our first three grandchildren in 2024?
