I don’t know if I know any adults who don’t wear glasses at this point. I have prescription glasses for distance (which I basically only need if we go to the theater), but I’m never without drug store reading glasses which can usually be found atop my head (I call them my middle-aged headband). Wifey has been wearing glasses since childhood, and is very proud to tell people that she’s customer number 9 at the local optometrist’s office. But I confess I have never gotten too excited about eyewear. Until now, that is. Vooglam’s gorgeous glasses popped up on one of my socials a few days ago, and I was instantly in love! They’re so cool looking, and they come in truly stylish shapes and colors. I want to try them all! And in light of the passing of the darling Iris Apfel, it seemed like a fitting post.
Of course, the likelihood of me looking great like any of the adorable models and influencers below are slender to none. While effortless fabulousness is my goal, I’m more likely to end up looking this way. But that won’t stop me from trying! I had a great time using their virtual try on tool, and their low price tag makes me even more tempted. They have a whole section of frames that costs just $6.95 (without prescription, of course)!
You can follow Vooglam on their website and on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

I have worn glasses since childhood and have had to wear them all day since my teens. I used to always pick really neutral frames so as to not make them so much of a feature but, as I have gotten older, I have become a wee bit more adventurous. My current everyday pair are purple. Seeing this selection, I think I might take inspiration from Iris Apfel and select frames that are more of a statement next time.

I graduated from purple frames to ones that are teal around the lenses with hot pink and black/white zebra stripe arms. They make me happy.

That’s impressive! I think you’re the only person I know who doesn’t need them past 50!

I am super hooked on Vooglam, Ublins, Fytoo….people comment on my glasses everywhere I go.
I wanted to be sad about Iris until I learned she was a big fan of the orange dude, extremely fatphobic and….just a rich lady profiting off our gaze. Made me think a lot about parasocial relationships, what we see versus what we don’t see (there’s a link on one of my insta posts, I think, to her comments about Mr Tiny Hands and how unfair the press was to him–I want to say it was a Vanity Fair interview).
So, I guess I just have to be my own hero, right? We all, in the end, have to manage that trick.
So glad you are in the cool frames club!

How horrifying about Iris. I had no idea. And anyway, being our own hero is kind of bad ass…
