I really miss singing a LOT, but these days, our schedules are just nutty. Between real estate, family commitments, doctor appointments (a full time job all to itself now that we’re, ahem, older), and social engagements, there’s just no time left for self care. But a one-day choir? Now this is a commitment to which I can agree!
“No auditions. No Commitment. No need for perfection.”
My friend and I have signed up for the May 18th “Easy On Me” One-Day Sing in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and AND I AM SO EXCITED I CAN’T STAND IT! I’m singing Soprano 2, and she’s doing Alto 1, so we can practice together in the meantime, which is a joy all on its own. The way it works is this. Once you make your donation (suggested donation is $22) , they send you practice tracks and sheet music. Then on the day, we all “play some introductory games, explore the group’s sound, shape the song phrase by phrase, and discuss the meaning of the song. Laughing, playing, discovering, and tuning in.” Yes, please!
You can follow the Gaia Music Collective on their YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. You can learn how to join the Gaia Music Collective Community here, and you can follow the eminently-talented Matt Goldstein on his Instagram as well. And finally, you can get the upcoming schedule of events on their Eventbrite page.

How exciting that you and your friend are going to be participating in this! I imagine that it is interesting, fun, and joyful.

And let’s not forget terrifying! Neither one of us has sung in public (other than the occasional tipsy karaoke song) in ages. But it’s a good kind of terror!

I think there is comfort to be had in being part of an ensemble as the many can cover up the fumbles of the few.
