I was recently captivated by the darling, tiny glass-and-metal sculptures by the Japanese artist known as Caco. Try though I might, I wasn’t able to find out much about the artist, who describes herself as a craftsman and fortune teller. I did find a brief interview with her on the Art Machi Museum website. She told a story that she began her work with glass when she visited Ogasawara with her family 23 years ago. That was where she first encountered sea glass on the beach, and its loveliness inspired Caco to begin to work with glass to make small objects, planters, and sculptures.
Whatever her story, I absolutely love her results!
You can see all of Caco’s wonderful, ethereal work on their website and on Instagram.

Oh these are wonderful! There is a childlike, fairytale quality to them that really appeals. The way the sculptures are often photographed on top of books reinforces the interpretation of them being like drawings that have come to life.
