Alan Schaller

European street photographer and photography instructor Alan Schaller is wonderfully generous with both his art and his technical knowledge. His gorgeous black and white photos may lack color, but they are full of fascinating light and shadow and texture. I hope you enjoy his glorious photos as much as I am!

You can see more of Alan Schaller’s amazing photos on his website and Instagram, and you can watch his photography tutorials on YouTube.

The photos are fabulous. They have the candid, dynamic feel of street photography with the precise composition of studio shots. The skill level and artistry are really impressive. I am going to give him a follow on Instagram.

His tip about photographing in B&W v Color is so interesting and so true. ‘In B&W, a red coat is just another shade of grey.’ Which is why I am always skeptical of people who talk about how easy it is to change a color photo to B&W during the edit process. I don’t think it is really the same at all. And you are defeating the entire purpose of shooting black and white in the first place. This was great, Donna.
