Russia-to-Canada transplant Elladj Balde is an ice dancer with a distinctive style and an innate sense of joy. I get such a sense of peace and happiness watching him do the thing he was clearly made for. His videos are nothing short of exhilarating, and even when Balde’s just fooling around, the camerawork is amazing. His camera operators must seriously skilled skaters, too.
Balde’s musicality is nothing short of incredible. He really seems like he’s having the best time on the ice, and he’s generously taking us along with him. And while his rink dancing is amazing, it’s his ‘wild ice’ performances that really take my breath away. I can’t begin to fathom how difficult that must be and how much could go wrong with them, but undaunted, out he and his crew go.
Unfortunately, after sustaining multiple serious knee injuries and 5 concussions, Balde was forced to retire from competitive ice dancing in 2018. Happily for us, he’s still skating for himself. Though he does NOT seem to be taking it easy, he’s hopefully being more careful of his poor head and knees…
You can follow the amazing Elladj Balde on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

I do, too. I always wished I could be more graceful on ice, but I never got the hang of it.

Living in Ft.Worth TX. I never really got the chance but I fell in love enough to use roller skates like I was on ice. Of course this was on the garage floor..When empty of airplane parts , and the drive way and sidewalk..sure was a fun time

His movements are so confident and fluid that he makes ice skating look as easy as walking. I loved the videos of him skating outdoors because the landscapes looked amazing.

OMG you found Elladj!!!!! Isn’t he extraordinary?! I’ve seen him live a couple of times at the Canadian national championships including his last competitive performances there – just mind blowing.
I can’t say it’s for all these videos, but frequently his videographer is Jordan Cowan, (a former competitive skater) who has constructed for himself a body harness to hold his camera and he films right on the ice with the skater(s) https://www.oniceperspectives.com/about
Talking of being blown away google Penny Hardy sculptures. I don’t want to leave another link or the AI will think I’m spam.

Lol. Stupid AI. I got kicked off of Etsy this week. I spent a very uncomfortable 24 hours until they responded to my appeal of the decision. Thank heaven they fixed it. Can you imagine me without Etsy? I can’t.

PS I left you a comment on the Art In The Cold post recommending Manami Sasaki’s toast art, but there are 2 links to her work in my comment so it’s “awaiting moderation”
