What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Today, we’re meeting Zuzu, a little crab on a big mission to fight ocean plastic pollution and ultimately end plastic waste. According to SC Johnson, every year, 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean, threatening not just our oceans and sea life, but also human health and ultimately the future of our planet.

Although many Americans sort and recycle their plastics, I am appalled to report that only 9% of those materials are actually recycled and given a new use. The remaining 91% end up back in our landfills and littering our natural spaces. SC Johnson has sponsored a petition asking policymakers to take action to fix the U.S.’s flawed recycling system, “encouraging federal solutions to address the plastic waste crisis and strengthen recycling systems in order to build a more sustainable future.”

You can learn more about what you can do to help on the Join Zuzu website and on Instagram.

I love their mission and have signed their petition. Thanks for providing the link. It is disgraceful that under 10% of plastics are being recycled in 2025. That is not just a flawed system but a broken one and clearly an overhaul is needed. I try to play my part by avoiding consuming plastics in the first place but it is really challenging so we need manufacturers and retailers to be doing their part too.
