What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Musée du Louvre

The Louvre Museum in Paris is doing something new this year! For the first time in the Museum’s history, they are offering an exhibit that centers on contemporary (1949-present) high fashion, but in keeping with their usual standards, only the most remarkable pieces are included. Those pieces were chosen because they bridge the gap between art and fashion.

The event has been 15 years in the making! Rather than grouping all of the fashion pieces together, each item in the collection is paired with and showcased alongside more typical Museum objects that echo the fashion’s style or motif references, historical pieces that best represent the designers’ inspiration. The resulting experience seems amazingly cohesive. What a marvelous way to display fashion! Ingeniously, they also were careful to place the fashion items in lesser-known parts of the Louvre, so visitors are seeing new items while exploring parts of the Museum they may not have visited before.

You can learn more about Louvre Couture on the exhibit website and on the Museum’s Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

And in case you’d like to spend a bit more time down this rabbit hole, below is a marvelous video featuring interviews with the designers!

I would love to see this exhibition in person! It is such a smart idea to showcase the fashion alongside other curated items and to make connections between different aspects of design history.

Honestly, I told Beloved the same thing. However, we’re already going to Mexico twice and Fire Island four times, and there’s a Portugal trip being planned for next spring. I may have to make my peace with just looking at the pictures of this exhibit, though I’m dying to go.
