Bea Wheeler – A.K.A. Bea and her Business – is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Though she is very young, the singer/songwriter has learned more about the music industry than many veterans will ever know. And she set off on her determined path at a very young age. The way Bea tells it, competition with her older sisters was her initial motivation.

“It all started when I was about nine years old, purely because I was determined to be better than my older sisters at singing. They’d always know all the words to all the really cool songs in the car, and I never did. They were also both really good at singing, and I was terrible. So it became my mission to sing A. louder than them in the car and B. better than them. I think I was definitely suffering from youngest child syndrome – unbearably competitive and always fighting for my voice to be heard. In my 9-year-old state, I proceeded to tell them that I was going to be a pop star whether they liked it or not, so I didn’t really have much choice other than to follow through!”

Like so many of the artists I’ve profiled, Wheeler’s music began gaining in popularity during Covid lockdown. As her social media gained in popularity, she was invited to serious meetings with music industry big wigs, all which she attended alone. She refers to this period as a “crash course in industry dynamics.” But while most people new to the industry would have been intimidated or easily pushed around, Bea held her ground until she got what she wanted. I have a feeling she’d be successful no matter what career she pursued.

Interestingly, though she is a tough and confident business woman, her lyrics belie a very soft underbelly. She writes songs about body image issues and lack of confidence and failures in relationships like most young women her age would (but with more skill than most). This remarkable artist is a true poet!
