Today is the anniversary of my mother’s death. I keep waiting for the grief to fade, but while it has certainly mellowed, it doesn’t take much for it to come charging back. The first video below is a heartbreakingly beautiful song about grief by the lovely Aubory Bugg. It seems a fitting tribute to our lost ones and those of us who have to continue on without them. Much love to you all.
“Where does all the love go when you love someone who’s gone?”
Because that’s maybe a little too much feeling on which to end, I pulled a handful more of this marvelous artist’s songs to help smooth back down the rougher edges of grief that her first song pulled up, at least for me.
You can follow the lovely Aubory Bugg on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

She has a very sweet voice. I think you’ll like her when you have the time.

The lyrics really do capture the thoughts and feelings that we experience when processing our grief. There is something about the melodic, emotive but spare quality of her voice (which oddly reminded me of Tracy Chapman) that perfectly conveys the raw emotion of grief. Loss never leaves us, we just develop and hone our coping strategies, and we continue to feel people’s absences keenly and that is especially the case on significant dates, including anniversaries. I hope that you are able to draw comfort from happy memories of your mom today.

You’re absolutely right about the Tracy Chapman comparison. I knew she was reminding me of someone, but I couldn’t figure out who!
