New York City transplant Australian Brad Walls has been making a name for himself for the last few years with his very distinctive photographs. His work has always featured his subjects from above, bringing out symmetry in everything from architecture to pools to people, but once he hit upon the idea of photographing ballerinas from above, his fame increased exponentially. These photos are so beautiful, they make me go all wanty.
Walls first began photographing dancers from the air during the pandemic, but he refined and refined his ideas until he arrived at his most recent series called PASSÉ, which features ballerinas dressed in white on a red background. While some may consider drone and other forms of remote photography to be kind of cheating, Walls is in control of all of it. His perfectly-placed subjects as photographed using his precisely-aligned camera is definitely all him. He leaves nothing to chance, and the resulting photos are positively mesmerizing.
You can follow Brad Walls on his website and on Instagram and YouTube.
I don’t want to use Walls’s work without permission, so please just scroll through the photos in this Instagram post to see his latest series.

The images are very visually striking and beautifully satisfying to look at. So much about the pandemic was obviously brutally miserable and traumatic that it is good to be reminded that creativity also occurred as a result of having to innovate around restrictions.
