When I was growing up, getting to perform in the church’s annual Christmas Nativity Play was A BIG DEAL. Every single girl was dying to play Mary and hoped the cutest boy would play Joseph. We all, frankly, kind of missed the point, but it sure was fun. Since early adulthood, I have gotten a huge kick out of watching children’s Nativity plays, the more chaotic, the better. So today is dedicated to that guilty pleasure.
Enjoy!

Kids are a special kind of chaotic. As long as they’re not mine, I find them hilarious.

Those are hysterical! That final video had me laughing because, as a preschool teacher, I have experienced moments like that but thankfully not so publicly. I personally think the more unhinged the nativity play is the better. My in-laws’ church has one that features real animals, including a camel, so that is always amusingly chaotic. However, one of my biggest cringe moments as a parent was taking my boys to see the non-animal nativity at their grandparents’ church and the two year old yelling out, “When do they throw baby Jesus to the lions?”

OMG I hooted at that story! I was once involved in what was supposed to be a non-animal nativity with a live baby playing Jesus. However, said infant had a blow out straight up his swaddling clothes, so they substituted him with someone’s standard poodle (named Elvis). It was a surprisingly successful cast change. Every nativity after that one was a disappointment.
