Pêssanka (Pysanka? Pysanky?) artist Vilson Kotviski makes marvelous traditional-looking decorated eggs using natural dyes and beeswax. I’ve posted about this style of decorated eggs before, but this man’s videos showing a reveal of each project are very entertaining and satisfying and calming. The fact that they’re in Portugese in no way diminished my enjoyment of them. The art form is traditionally associated with Ukranian culture, and the Brazil-based Kotviski’s work, while certainly in the Ukranian tradition, also displays a little Brazilian flair. The complexity he’s able to achieve on these small works of art is just incredible.
“If you live on autopilot and have never really managed to stop, pessanka could be your turning point!” (“Se você vive no automático e nunca conseguiu realmente parar, a pêssanka pode ser a sua travessia!” Vilson Kotviski website
Though the materials used seem to be fragile, Pêssanka eggs are meant to communicate “the story of a hardworking, cultured, creative and above all great dreamer people who seek to transfer to the white surface of the egg, a very rich and peculiar symbology. Decided strokes, undulating forms, and colors of spring on the prairies and steppes, constitute the purest expression of feelings and desires for infinite peace, eternity, health, fortune, and belief in divine superiority.” (source: Pessanka Blog)

I am fascinated by how he is able to think and design in reverse. Just wild.

Same. At this point. between the brutal winter and the insane news cycle, I can barely keep moving forward.
