There is a Berlin-based artist duo known as Studio Dicro Dosis who create complex sculptures using carefully-engineered pieces of perspex and specialized lighting. Their pieces look like soap bubbles hung on aerial equipment, and the sculptures’ reflective qualifies envelop the spaces where they’re displayed to make for totally immersive experiences. They coat their materials with dichroic film which shifts colors depending on the angle from which they’re viewed. The works are not limited to galleries. Instead, they’re often displayed in clubs and at festivals, with the event energy and music bringing the pieces to life.
I love how their process is a true marriage of digital technology, design, and craftsmanship, making their art really unique. They start with traditional methods of art and design, but use technology to ensure their cuts are precise, making for a more seamless interpretation of their vision. And every one of their pieces is one of a kind. They say they start every project from scratch, tailoring the design to the specific location and lighting setup.
You can follow Studio Dicro Dosis on their website and on Instagram and Facebook.
