I pride myself on having a very good ear for harmony. Though I don’t perform much anymore (putting it mildly), my brain still sings harmony to nearly everything I hear. Today, however, we’re looking at a band out of Branson, MO whose harmonies are so fulsome and so tight, I cannot pick them apart. I can’t even tell how many different parts they’re singing. It’s truly incredible. The Haygoods are all siblings, 5 brothers and 1 sister, and they seem to be having a blast making flawless music together. How could you not enjoy singing music that incredible? It must be so much fun getting invited to their family gatherings.
The Haygoods have been playing music together for 34 years. I can’t even imagine that. When they were little, along with their parents, they were known as The Haygood Family Fiddlers, and I can confirm that their talent with their instruments is every bit as impressive as their singing. And I absolutely love their origin story.
“The Haygoods stsory didn’t start on a big stage. It started in a small mobile home in the Ozark Mountains. In 1983, at just 5 years old, Timothy Haygood saw world-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman perform on Sesame Street. That moment changed everything. He picked up the violin and never put it down. Soon, his [siblings] followed. What began as one kid with a violin turned into a full family band — singing, playing, and performing anywhere they could across the Midwest.”
They then moved to Branson and began performing at the Silver Dollar City theme park. For 8 summers, the family performed 6 shows per day, 6 days a week. I can’t imagine how they managed it! in 2001, The Haygoods opened their own show on the Branson Strip, and they’ve been performing there ever since. You would think they’d become part of the scenery, but apparently both Branson visitors and locals are really loyal. According to the band’s website, they sell out nearly every show!
You can follow The Haygoods on their website and on YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, Instagram, and Facebook.
