What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Halloween Nostalgia

Susan Tumblety

Artist Susan Tumblety’s work is nearly irresistible to me. She regularly explores nostalgic themes, but her Halloween work is my favorite. I can remember my mom taking out our (minimal) Halloween decorations every October, and they all looked like Tumblety’s pieces. The artist’s fun exploration of nostalgic Americana brings me straight back to my childhood in a very good way.

Tumblety hand paints all her vintage images on usable, reusable objects like clocks, trays, and keepsake boxes. Her inspiration is taken from vintage things like paper plates, candy boxes, and magazine advertisements, and her references range from the turn of the 20th century to the late 1970s. She gives the same treatment to retro holiday images, so there’s a good likelihood I’ll be back…

You can follow Susan Tumblety on her Fine Art America web page, in her Etsy shop, and on Instagram and Facebook.
