What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

They’re Back! They’re Back! The Eighties Are Back!!!

Okay, maybe the eighties aren’t really back, but the music and the look and the style of Neon Trees‘ new video is giving me giddy little Peter Gabriel/Men Without Hats-type flashbacks.

I came across their name while reading an interview with Lennon and Maisy, the darlings I posted about in March in Somebody Buy These Girls a Pony!  I’m such a huge fan of theirs that I had to check out Neon Trees, and I’m so very glad I did!

You may know Neon Trees from their 2012 single “Everybody Talks.”  Their new album, “Pop Psychology” dropped on April 22, and it’s incredibly listenable.  Of course, when I tried to do a little research on them, I was reminded about how pretentious and stupid music review writing is. I came across gems like this:

“Like their name, Neon Trees are a combination of slick pop hooks and sturdy organic rock, both melodic and hard-hitting, their anthems of adolescent angst, longing, love lost and found, delivered with the kind of heart-on-the-sleeve passion that only comes from hard work and commitment.”

So no help there.

Anyway, listen and enjoy. They’re cute and cheery and if you liked eighties pop, they’re sure to make your day.

And just to prove the whole album’s not this pop-happy, here’s something a bit deeper:

  1. I’ve said it before. I finished college in ’80, law school in ’83, got married in ’84, had Tom in ’86, and had Joe in ’91. The ’80s to me are a fog of sleep deprivation.

  2. Maybe if they come back, it will be at least a different kind of blur the second time.
