We’re in Fire Island for Memorial Day weekend, and this place always makes me think of makeup. Every summer, between the Drag Invasion, Miss Fire Island, the Halloween party, drag shows, and random Saturday night dress-up silliness, this is where I do most of my costume makeup work (and by work, I mean play).
While doing a little makeup research for our next project, I came upon the work of Israel’s Tal Peleg. Her designs show great wit and thoughtfulness and precision, and unlike a great deal of costume makeup, her work manages not to make the wearer look ugly. (That’s a really tough trick to master.)
Recently, she’s done a series of eye designs based upon popular fairy tales. They’re all really exceptional, though I think her Princess and the Pea, below, is my favorite. It was so clever of her to use a green contact lens to represent the pea!
