What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Not Your Average Household Pests

In early March, I wrote about a woman who shared her house with a horse. That was cute and quirky, but it’s nothing compared to this.

Set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in a suburb of Nairobi, this 1930’s mansion has been turned in to an all-inclusive boutique hotel with many wonderful amenities and one completely fantastic feature.

I think I’ve seen those eyelashes on Ru Paul!

Behold the wonder that is Giraffe Manor, the favorite hangout of a herd of endangered Rothschild giraffe. Though they are technically wild animals and live in the adjacent forest, these fantastic creatures like to visit the manor daily, appearing in (and through) windows and doors, hoping for treats.  And we thought it was cool that the deer beg on the beach in Fire Island!

They’re apparently very, very comfortable around people, and for good reason. Since the 1930’s, generation after generation of these beautiful creatures have been hanging out here, cuddling up with the locals and entertaining visitors. A portion of the profits from the hotel go toward this elegant species’ conservation, which seems only right since the beasts are largely responsible for the sizable price tag. A night in this fairy tale setting costs you $550.  I think I’ll have to satisfy myself with the pictures.  That’s okay. They’re very good pictures.

Etiquette question: if you want to go inside, do you wait your turn or walk under them?  ©Giraffe Manor

I would definitely buy Girl Scout cookies from her. ©Giraffe Manor

  1. I suspect that you will need not your average household pest control company to deal with this too.

  3. The dog has been getting on my nerves lately. Maybe I should just be thankful he’s not a giraffe. “Bo, thank goodness you are not a giraffe.” That helps, a little.
