Found objects transformed into stained glass panels.
Like all stained glass, these panels not only add color to the window on which they hang, they also add color to the floor and walls before them as sunlight passes through. Unlike most traditional stained glass, however, these panels by Daniel Maher Stained Glass are designed for the effect on the floor as much as the way for how they look in a window. They are classified as “Suntrackers,” and they’re made from found objects – canning jars, cut crystal drinking glasses, and chandelier prisms, among others – interspersed with dichroic glass, hand-faceted glass jewels, and stained glass. Each panel’s description includes information (and sometimes photos) about how the panel’s glass and crystal will reflect in a room.
“In direct sunlight the window projects a pattern onto the floor. The reeded glasses send shafts of light beyond the 5 ½” shadow provided by the frame. Most stunning of all is the refracted pattern of 10 overlapping rainbows that appear on the wall and ceiling.” -Washboard Suntracker, Daniel Maher Stained Glass
And if you’re interested in antique stained glass, Daniel Maher and company have also performed some really stunning restorations, which are described in delicious detail on their website.

I love this idea. My granny hung crystals from her western windows long before they were credited with mystical powers and we would dance in the rainbows as children. When she died, each grandchild got a crystal or two and mine now hang where they get western sun and in the late afternoon there are rainbows in my kitchen and I think about my granny.
