What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Private Lives

I am thrilled to bring to you the very personal-feeling paintings of Yvan Favre. As you know, I spend a lot of time trolling the internet (and the world) looking for beautiful things, but when I find The Thing, I get this giddy feeling like bubbles rising in my chest. This artist’s stunning, solitary work had my internal bubble machine on high!

There’s something so genuine-feeling about these paintings. The vulnerability of the back of the neck of the young woman on the bus, the merest glimpse of the thigh of the girl in the chair, the tangible exhaustion of the woman in the tub, all contribute to the intimate nature of the work. Even the pieces without any people in them feel private. His work gives me chills in the very best way, and I hope you find them as moving as I do.

I think you can tell how great the artist is because the mood is conveyed without facial expressions. To be able to paint body language so well is pretty amazing. I can certainly understand why this gave you chills.
I really like the person on the bus picture. Of course this is probably because I see this particular view a lot.

You’re right. The empty unmade bed feels like one of the most intimate pieces here. I share your appreciation and excitement over this artist’s amazing work.

These are fantastic! I can feel some Edward Hopper influences here, and I like it. 🙂

The one that “hits” me is the woman on the train who we’re seeing from the back. This is my kind of art – very solitary and moving… (if that makes sense…?). Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Wow. I love these. My favorites are the woman in the chair and the woman on the bus. (Actually love the window one, too.) These are gorgeous. Thanks for finding and sharing.
