I am thrilled to bring to you the very personal-feeling paintings of Yvan Favre. As you know, I spend a lot of time trolling the internet (and the world) looking for beautiful things, but when I find The Thing, I get this giddy feeling like bubbles rising in my chest. This artist’s stunning, solitary work had my internal bubble machine on high!
There’s something so genuine-feeling about these paintings. The vulnerability of the back of the neck of the young woman on the bus, the merest glimpse of the thigh of the girl in the chair, the tangible exhaustion of the woman in the tub, all contribute to the intimate nature of the work. Even the pieces without any people in them feel private. His work gives me chills in the very best way, and I hope you find them as moving as I do.
