Paper Portraits

These portraits by Russian paper artists Alexei Lyapunov and Lena Ehrlich are unbelievable. They’re so much more evocative than many portraits done in more traditional materials. They’re whimsical but still manage to speak volumes about the characters they’re portraying.

As with many of my faves, I really wish I could see them in person. The final picture gives you some idea of their small scale. I think you’re going to love them. I certainly did.

  2. Amazing detail. I’m always thrilled to share the creativity of others. Not many people would consider creating art in this medium.

    • I know what you mean. I was thinking while I was looking at them “who thought of this?” I never would have believed such great work could be done on such a small and delicate scale. They’re all completely believable.

  3. This is awesome. I used to do tiny paper cutout things when I was younger… See what I could have become had I just listened to my HS art teacher? He wanted me to go to FIT… :/

  5. Wow! How creative and amazing! It really reminds a lot of Laika’s work. There’s something to be said about working with materials like paper, clay, and the like to create art, a nostalgic feeling.

  6. Wow! The patience that some people have staggers me. Plus the manual dexterity. Incredible. These creations are wonderful. They are so graphic and sculptural and textural and dynamic and just magnificent. If i had to pick a favourite of those you have showcased, it would be Freddie Mercury.
