Thank goodness for hippies!
Jay Mohler has elevated the craft of God’s eyes to a legitimate art form, and his use of color and structure, and the architectural way he builds shape upon shape makes them endlessly fascinating. His Etsy store carries both finished mandalas and kits so you can make your own! And if you’re trying this at home, don’t worry about Pinterest fails. You can even get him to give you a personal tutorial on Skype!
I’ve included below a few of my favorites along with a close-up picture of each. They are so amazingly complex, they’re really worth examining in minute detail. Enjoy!
Because I was traveling, I didn’t have enough time to get Etsomnia ready for Thursday morning, so it will post on Friday instead. Thanks!

These are so beautiful — and it was a treat to see the artist and how large they can be!

I made these as a lass and I taught my kids how to make them but we could never hope to accomplish anything approaching the beauty of these. Aside from the perfection of the design, the threads are all so uniformly wound around the structure. I’m very impressed.

I love them, too, but I have concluded that they require endless patience, which I lack. Bummer.

Donna–
Jay Mohler’s God’s eyes are beautiful! I love all the colors. Thanks for sharing. This takes me back to when one of my third grade teachers shared her God’s eyes from New Mexico and taught our class how to make them, We made Xmas ornaments. i had so much fun doing it that I made more from leftover yarn at home from an old weaving project.
Take care,
Carrie
