StoryCorps 9/11 Project

StoryCorps 9/11 Project

Back in December 2014, I wrote about StoryCorps’ animated oral histories. I’ve long been a fan of theirs, so when I started thinking about how to best acknowledge this year’s 9/11 anniversary, they came to mind. It turns out my instinct was a good one.

I wasn’t able to get through all of their 9/11 recordings, but of the ones I got through before the tissues ran out, these really stood out. I hope you enjoy them. Maybe enjoy is the wrong word. I hope you appreciate them. And if you’re having a “Beaches” kind of day, there are many, many more on their website.

“Since 2005, StoryCorps and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum have worked to record at least one story to honor each life lost in the attacks on September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993.” – StoryCorps 9/11 Initiative

That’s enough of that. Now mop up and watch this little bit of (sort of) New York love until you feel better.

I am sorry to say that I did not know about the StoryCorps project. What a wonderful thing to do to commemorate the lives lost and preserve those personal stories. I was in pieces over the father remembering his last words to his two sons. I really needed that pashmina story. Thanks for that.

I’ve seen a lot of these but I never saw the first one you posted. It broke my heart.

Gosh. I never cease to feel astonished and devastated. Those videos knock me on my behind. Every time. What a wonderful thing to do even if they make a mess of my mascara.

What heartbreaking stories. I so feel for these family members left behind, especially the young kids growing up without their parent. :’-(
