My daughter posted this on Facebook last week, and I was unable to stop myself from replaying it over and over. It’s that adorable.
This is Marcel the Shell, created by writer/director Dean Fleischer-Camp, and voiced by his wife, actress and former SNL cast member, Jenny Slate. You probably recognize her as Mona-Lisa from “Parks and Recreation.” She’s appeared in a fair amount of meh TV shows and has voiced characters in “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” and “Bob’s Burgers.” Personally, I think Marcel is her best work.
“If you drive a bug, you have to be pretty easy-going, because you’re going to go where the bug wants to go.” -Marcel the Shell
Marcel was the darling of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, won Best Animated Short at AFI Fest, and took home the coveted Grand Jury and Audience Awards at the New York International Children’s Film Festival. There’s a Marcel book, too. I’m sure it’s fine, but I can’t imagine Marcel without the voice. And the sneezing. Just watch. You’ll see what I mean.
And now that you’re in love with Marcel, let’s completely trash the illusion. Here’s Jenny Slate on Conan doing a bit of Marcel.
