I love computer animation, but there is still tremendous value in the more traditional forms of of the art. Unfortunately, more and more young animators are bypassing hand-drawn and stop-motion process in favor of the (relatively) instant gratification of the less labor-intensive computer-based varieties. But all is not lost.
Clay Kids is a highly-acclaimed, international stop-motion claymation kid’s TV series. It looks pretty cool, but in my opinion, the best thing about it is that the animators are very interested in teaching kids about how they make their show. There’s an entire series of videos aimed at small children illustrating how they do what they do. I sincerely hope it inspires a whole new generation of stop-motion animators.
Here are just a few of their behind-the-scenes videos, but there’s many more on their channel!

Thank you SO much for sharing this! I had never heard of Clay Kids and honestly nor had I thought to search for such a thing on YouTube. I am going to have to share this with my kids (and I have subscribed to the YT channels) as my boys absolutely love making stop motion animated movies (well, let’s call them very shorts since they only last a couple of minutes). They currently use their lego minifigures as models. I think they will find all this very inspiring.

That’s great! I love how creative they are. That’s because they have a cool mom!

Thank you muchly for that. I think they would disagree about me being cool but that’s a sign of parenting right I think.
