What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Tatsuya Tanaka

Japanese art director Tatsuya Tanaka has been creating and photographing miniatures every single day since April of 2011. How’s that for commitment?

Using office supplies, food, and whatever else is lying around, Tanaka creates entirely believable miniature vignettes. He must be so much fun to share a meal with!

“Would you please pass the broccoli?” (Pulls tiny people and lighter out of pocket and makes a forest fire scene on the tablecloth.)

And it’s not just his imagination that’s amazing. His execution is absolutely flawless. Where do you think he gets all those teensy people from? His Instagram is so satisfying and so incredibly clever, I actually had to force myself to step away. I want to take my time, so I can fully appreciate these fantastically-inventive scenes. On the bright side, even if you do lose control and binge on Tanaka’s fascinating dioramas, he’s still making a new one every day. They can be seen in his miniatures calendar, here.

  7. Just amazing! What an incredible imagination. Macro photography requires a fair bit of skill too and his compositions and capture are immaculate.

  9. These are brilliant. I’ve seen miniatures before but the consistency of out-of-the-box thinking is amazing.Thanks. I’ve now put him in my Instagram feed.

  10. These are adorable. I have a soft spot for minatures. I think my fave is the one with the ice cream cone.
