Cesare Toffolo
Father and son Emanuel and Cesare Toffolo are glass artists trained and working in Murano, Italy. But though their roots are the same, their work is very, very different. Father Cesare makes beautiful, mostly-traditional-looking blown glass vessels and other objects. But if you look more closely, you realize that many of his elegant, classical-looking pieces have the intriguing addition of tiny working or struggling figures climbing over and through them. His son Emanuel, on the other hand, eschews the more traditional forms his father favors and instead creates stunning lampworked pieces beautifully depicting exotic beetles.
Both legitimate artists in their own right, the extreme difference between the work of the father and the work of the son makes me think their relationship might be somewhat tempestuous. At the very least, it must make for some really interesting dinner table conversations…

I know what you mean, but while I don’t necessarily want to own one, I still think they’re gorgeously done!

Me, too! Father and son both knock it out of the park. I’ll bet the mom is an interesting character, too.

I say this all the time, but I’d love to see them in person!

Donna! You’ve done it again! I have to expand my List of Coveted Items yet further because I need (NEEEEEEEEED!) those glass beetles. I absolutely love them.

And once again, we’ll have to fight over them. Do you favor the metallics or the black and white ones? I can’t decide.

I love the metallic blue ones because I have the eyes of a magpie but I think my favourite is the metallic grey one, like a dark silver, second beetle row at the very right.
How about, once we have them in our mitts, we do a “one for you and one for me” type system until we have divided them up between us?

I guess we just need to get one each of those then and split the rest.

If it wasn’t for people like this there would be no point for there to be humans.
Amazing!!

I completely agree. I think the artists and performers of the world help to redeem us as a species.
