I was never particularly interested in birds as a younger person. But there’s just something about (upper) middle age and the avian world. I can’t explain it. Sure, we live in a wildlife refuge and are regularly surrounded by all kinds of water birds, but it’s not just that. I’m now fascinated by all birds. When did that happen?
At any rate, I’m not alone. The lovely folks at Birds Scape share my interest, and do a good job of providing daily doses of informational and entertaining bird-related content. If you too have reached the bird obsession stage of life, I recommend you find them on Instagram and start binge-watching!

I had minimal interest in birds until we emigrated. Because there were new birds for me to familiarize myself with, I started to pay attention and – boom! – suddenly I was getting all excited about grackles visiting my bird feeder and waking people up to tell them I had just seen an indigo bunting.

The bunting must have been wonderful! Have you watched “Extraordinary Birder with Christian Cooper”? It’s fantastic! We started it last night. And for her last birthday, I gave Beloved a bird feeder with a motion-sensor camera in it. Big fun!

I haven’t started it but it’s on my list. I love the idea of the bird feeder camera. That must be fun.

It is! The cat is enjoying it too, little wanna-be murderer.
