I was so excited to discover NYC-based artist Denitza’s glorious painted masterpieces this week. These are some of the most New Yorky things I’ve ever seen (and you know how I love my city!). The artist starts with a simple matte black background, then using acrylic paints, gel medium, and enamel, she outlines each cell in glossy black, then fills it with bright color to create her shapes. Trees, brownstones, landscapes, and abstracts all benefit from this fascinating technique. I’ve never seen anything like it! She describes her paintings as X-rays of her surroundings and imagination, and her technique looks like something between stained glass and butterfly wings.
Her paintings seem to sell out immediately, and I can see why. I think I may have to save up to get one for myself. They’re just delicious!
You can see all of Denitza’s gorgeous, colorful paintings on her website and on Instagram, Facebook, and the Arteria Gallery website.

I feel like if we could figure out what she uses to make her glossy, raised black outlines, it’s something we could all play at!

These are fabulous! They are like elevated painting by numbers combined with mosaic and a smattering of stained glass and enameling. I like the rainbow aspect to them too.
