What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Martha Haversham/Smallditch

Mixed-media artist Martha Haversham combines vegetables and small discarded items like disposable face masks with magazine cutouts of legs, and the resulting art is whimsical and adorable! Her collages have been described by some as ‘runway art’, and I find them unexpected and funny. The collection is called Smallditch, which Haversham refers to as ‘trashion.’ She’s endeavoring to bring attention to waste and litter, hoping to inspire people to look at trash differently.

“I am valuing detritus, objects of low status and exploring their worth; their cost to the planet. Individually, life is extremely challenging, but through this lens it is possible to carry an abundance of self-sufficiency.  Along with a sense of humour that makes for a very rich life.

“Smallditch [is] a place I like to be and through which I can explore aesthetic appreciation in a way that does not cost the earth, but rather helps it along.”

– Martha Haversham
