Ed People

When I first bookmarked Ed People, it was when my Instagram embeds were still working. That’s over, so I nearly scrapped this one. Happily, I spotted a link to his YouTube channel, so we can enjoy them together! This is the darling Ed People, a Belgian dancer who travels the world asking people to share their favorite dance steps. An article in the Indian Express said he is familiar with so many Indian dances, he should be given an honorary Indian citizenship, and the same can be said of quite a few cultures’ signature moves.

People teaches us that dance is a universal language that easily bridges gaps of culture, language, generation, and geography that could easily come between strangers. His Teach Me Your Favorite Dance Move series brings delight to the participants, the onlookers, and his audience as well. What a simple-yet-powerful way to spread joy! And he doesn’t just limit himself to featuring young, fit people, either. His inclusion of the elderly and unhoused is significant in its kindness. What a lovely guy!

You can follow along with Ed People’s fun on his YouTube Channel, on Instagram, and on Facebook.

It’s just the loveliest. One of my sons has shown me some of this creator’s videos before and it is definitely the side of the internet that warms the cockles of your soul and balances the bleaker and darker side out. I love the use of dance to transcend barriers, like language, and bring people together. Dance is also so joyful. Although I die of cringe every time an adult catches me at it, I dance every single day with my students and they laugh every single time. You can’t help but be a little happier when dancing, whether or not you are any good at it.
