In Washington State on the magical-sounding Whidbey Island is the studio of Jonathan Jung, a master craftsman with a great imagination, a fantastic sense of design, and a wonderful way with woodworking. Jung makes every one of his pieces entirely himself, right down to his selection of materials. He has a brilliant talent for selecting pieces of wood that perfectly suit whatever he is making. I can’t imagine having that level of understanding about such a complex and diverse material. His pieces range from the small (hand-made game boards) to the very large (full-wall cabinets and bookcases), but they all display the same level of handmade care.
“(I’m) Completely self-taught, I’ve been designing and building things all my life. It wasn’t until 2016 that I started on the journey of being a full-time maker. At the time my wife and I were living in New Zealand, where I began to envision making a living from all my ideas for interior woodwork. If you have an idea and want someone to expound on it, I’d be proud to be your guy.”
You can follow Jonathan Jung on his website and on Instagram and Facebook.
