Jason Anderson

Painter Jason Anderson started his art career working in stained glass, and that’s immediately and clearly apparent in his paintings. He says his work in stained glass taught him to look at art as a jigsaw of shapes and colors.

“Jason’s use of colour combined with his bold application creates a compelling composition of large sweeping impasto strokes that blend seamlessly into areas of smooth vibrant colour. His work is mainly influenced by the contrast and drama of W. H. Turner and the jewel-like qualities of Gustav Klimt.”

– About Jason Anderson

Anderson’s gorgeous impasto canvases reduce his subjects – usually landscapes – into blocks of rich color, and I love them every bit up close as I do from afar. And his time-lapse videos of his pieces from conception through completion are just fascinating!

You can follow the amazing Jason Anderson on his website and on Instagram, YouTube, X, and Facebook.

The video below is the first in a playlist of his abstracts. If it doesn’t automatically go on to his next video, you may need to watch them on YouTube. Well worth your time!

I can definitely see the influence of the stained glass making in his paintings not just in the way he composes the images but also the way he starts with darks and neutrals and then adds the brighter tones so that the piece becomes lighter and more vibrant. That feels like a metaphor for life – finding the light in the dark.

I love the look of his art. It feels both retro and futuristic to me.
