Rural Dog Rescue

A group of first graders from Tyler Elementary School in Washington, D.C. undertook to draw pictures of dogs awaiting adoption, and their drawings went viral. I love it when something positive (and, in this case, adorable) gets the internet attention it deserves.

The hosting organization, Rural Dog Rescue, saves high-risk dogs from kill shelters in rural areas of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. They focus on pulling dogs that have a 70% or higher euthanization rate, giving them a new chance to not just survive but thrive. RDR has rescued more than 2,000 dogs since it began in 2011. The entirely volunteer-run organization doesn’t have a physical space, and instead uses foster families to house the animals it saves while they wait for their forever homes.

You can learn more about Rural Dog Rescue and their animals on their website, and on Instagram and Facebook.
