What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Kodachrome

Doralice by Jessica Brilli

American painter Jessica Brilli is clearly an old soul. Her paintings depict retro-feeling scenes and objects that are straight out of the past, literally. She has been collecting 35mm Kodachrome slides from around the U.S., and she paints them with beautiful sensitivity. Brilli’s paintings remind me of my childhood and my mother, and they are giving me the very best warm-and-fuzzy feelings.

“I view thousands of slides and photos to find the ones that move me emotionally. I’m constantly on the hunt for photos that mirror scenes from my childhood, or that I feel a connection to through personal or familial experience… Most of my paintings take place in the past before I was born. Through these paintings I’m engaging with the past, and bringing along the viewer for the ride.”

You can see all of the heart-squeezing work by Jessica Brilli on her website and on Instagram and Facebook.

Note: I am cautiously optimistic that the Instagram embeds below should work. That said, if you can’t view them, I really recommend you go to her website or her social media to see her work for yourself. It’s truly lovely stuff, and I’d hate for you to miss it.

These are lovely and I really like the artist’s statement. They really do conjure up a sense of connecting with the past. My favourite is actually the typewriter because that one connects with my own nostalgia.
