Miniaturist Danny Cortes used art to turn his life around, and I’m finding his story so very inspirational today! Cortes was a former drug dealer and ex con who moved back into his mother’s house in 2020 during the pandemic. In an effort to stay out of trouble, the young man decided to experiment with the art tools he had at his disposal, and began making miniatures of familiar NYC scenes from his life. Cortes quickly realized he’d found his calling, and his art really took off! Maybe you need to be a hardcore NYC fan to fully appreciate his work, but I find it fascinating. I would give good money for that CBGB miniature!
You can see all of Danny Cortes’s amazing miniature NYC art on his website and on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

His pieces are terrific! I think the urban grittiness of them adds not only to the realism but the visual interest because of all the colour and texture. And I love his story too.

Me too. I’m always so glad to hear when art turns someone’s life around.
