Today is my dad’s birthday, so in honor of him, I thought I would share one of the artists he introduced me to in my youth. I’m sure most of you have at least heard of Herb Alpert, an American trumpet player and band leader whose band, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, was an integral part of the soundtrack of the 1960s and 1970s. The winner of nine Grammys, he had fifteen gold and fourteen platinum albums, and five of his recordings hit number 1. Alpert is 89 this year, but that hasn’t slowed him down. He released his 50th album last month, and shows no signs of stopping.
