Shena Tschofen on the Cyr Wheel

1/29/16: I have a friend (okay, a friend of a friend) who announced on Facebook his 2016 new year’s resolution is to learn the Cyr wheel. Of course, being inquisitive (read: nosy), I had to do a little research so I knew what he was talking about. Wow, am I ever glad I did.

This lovely, talented, and ambitious young man is an accomplished performer (circus, sideshow, and other), and he’s in great physical condition, but I’m still in awe. This is some really strenuous, difficult, beautiful work! I can’t wait to see how his training progresses. I’m sure he’s going to be great!

I used to make New Year’s resolutions and announce them to anyone who’d listen. Then I realized that my (inevitable) failure was just making January and February (which is about how long it would take me to forget the resolutions) even more miserable than they would have been. So now, every year, my resolution is the same. To do my best to make myself and everyone around me happier. That I can do!

Acrobats always amaze me. Do you know if the friend of a friend learned the wheel?
