When you hear Nashville-based musician Fulton Lee’s music, you know right away that he’s a unique talent. His music is a jubilant combination of soul, funk, and disco, and his songs have the feeling of joy about them. The self-styled indie-pop-soul artist moved to Nashville immediately after high school (his poor parents) because he already knew who he was and what he was meant to do. It’s no coincidence that the artist dresses like a Jerry Lee Lewis throwback. Growing up, he listened to his parents’ music, including rock greats like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling stones. His mom also loved country singers like Shania Twain and Kenny Chesney, and Motown artists including Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. Those artists, combined with his personal favorites, Little Richard, James Brown, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis, informed his musical style, and formed him into the rising pop/soul star he is today.
Upon arriving in Music City in 2017, the young man attracted band members who quickly became an integral part of his songwriting process. He released his first album, Baby Blue, in 2018, and he’s been making happy music ever since. But as great as his music and his angelic voice are, it’s his charming and disarming way of finding people who need his music and singing just to them that makes my heart go all squeezy. You’ll understand when you see the videos below. He may not be playing to thousands, but I feel like he’s spreading his version of joy and cheer just the same. What a delightful way to promote his new songs!
